04 - 1 small onion, diced
05 - 1 red bell pepper, chopped
06 - 3 cloves garlic, minced
07 - 2 fresh jalapeños, seeded and diced

→ Sauce

08 - 2 1/2 cups marinara sauce
09 - 2 tbsp tomato paste
10 - 1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
11 - 1 tsp dried oregano
12 - 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
13 - Salt and black pepper, to taste

→ Cheese

14 - 1 cup shredded mozzarella
15 - 1/2 cup grated Parmesan
16 - 1 cup ricotta cheese
17 - 2 large eggs, beaten
18 - 2 tbsp chopped fresh basil, plus extra for garnish

# Directions:

01 - Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease a 9-inch pie dish or deep baking dish.
02 - Cook spaghetti in salted boiling water until just al dente; drain and set aside.
03 - Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add sausage, breaking it apart, and cook until evenly browned. Drain excess fat.
04 - Stir in onion, bell pepper, garlic, and jalapeños. Sauté for 4–5 minutes until softened.
05 - Add marinara sauce, tomato paste, red pepper flakes, oregano, and smoked paprika. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
06 - In a large bowl, combine cooked spaghetti, ricotta cheese, eggs, and chopped basil. Mix until pasta is evenly coated.
07 - Spread the spaghetti mixture into the prepared dish, forming a crust that goes up the sides.
08 - Spoon the sausage and vegetable sauce over the spaghetti layer, spreading evenly. Top with mozzarella and Parmesan.
09 - Bake for 25–30 minutes until the cheese is melted and golden. Let cool for 10 minutes before slicing.
10 - Garnish with fresh basil and serve warm.

# Expert Hints:

01 -
  • It takes everyday pantry pasta and turns it into something that feels like a centerpiece without any fussy techniques.
  • The spaghetti crust is a genuine crowd shocker every single time you serve it.
  • Leftovers reheat beautifully so you get two great meals from one effort.
02 -
  • Overcooking the spaghetti before baking is the fastest way to end up with a soft, crumbling mess instead of a pie that slices cleanly.
  • Letting it rest those 10 minutes is not optional because the eggs and cheese need time to set up or everything falls apart on the plate.
03 -
  • Press the spaghetti crust firmly against the sides of the dish using the back of a spoon because a loose crust will collapse when you cut the first slice.
  • Taste the finished sauce before assembling because the salt level in sausage varies wildly and you cannot fix it once it is baked.
