Mini Grilled Cheese Hawaiian Rolls (Printable Version)

Soft Hawaiian rolls filled with cheddar and mozzarella, brushed with garlic-butter and baked or grilled until golden.

# What You'll Need:

→ Bread & Cheese

01 - 1 package (12-count) Hawaiian rolls
02 - 8 oz sharp cheddar cheese, thinly sliced
03 - 4 oz mozzarella cheese, thinly sliced

→ Butter Spread

04 - 4 tbsp unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
05 - 1/2 tsp garlic powder
06 - 1 tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped

# Directions:

01 - Preheat oven to 350°F or set a large skillet or griddle over medium heat.
02 - Using a serrated knife, slice the entire sheet of Hawaiian rolls horizontally in one piece without separating them. Place the bottom half on a baking sheet or clean work surface.
03 - Distribute cheddar and mozzarella slices evenly across the bottom half of the rolls, covering the entire surface. Place the top half of the rolls back over the cheese layer.
04 - In a small bowl, combine softened butter with garlic powder and chopped parsley. Mix until well blended, then spread the mixture evenly over the top of the rolls using a pastry brush or spoon.
05 - For oven method: bake uncovered for 12 to 15 minutes until cheese is fully melted and tops are golden brown. For skillet method: carefully separate into individual rolls and grill each side for 2 to 3 minutes until golden with melted centers.
06 - Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly. Separate into individual mini sandwiches if baked whole, and serve warm.

# Expert Hints:

01 -
  • They disappear faster than anything else at a party and people will corner you for the recipe.
  • The combination of Hawaiian roll sweetness with sharp melted cheddar is genuinely addictive.
02 -
  • Do not skip the resting time because the cheese will slide right off if you cut while it is too hot.
  • Using both cheddar and mozzarella rather than just one cheese changed everything because you get flavor and melt in the same bite.
03 -
  • Cover the tray loosely with foil for the first eight minutes if your oven browns too quickly then uncover to finish.
  • The garlic butter can be mixed the night before and kept in the fridge which saves you time when guests arrive.
