Blueberry Milk Tea Cooler (Printable Version)

Blueberry syrup blended with black tea and milk, chilled and poured over ice for a refreshing summer cooler.

# What You'll Need:

→ Blueberry Syrup

01 - 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
02 - 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
03 - 2 tablespoons water

→ Tea and Milk

04 - 2 black tea bags (Assam or English Breakfast)
05 - 1 cup boiling water
06 - 1 cup whole milk, oat milk, or almond milk
07 - 2 teaspoons honey, adjusted to taste (optional)

→ To Serve

08 - 1 cup ice cubes
09 - Fresh blueberries and mint leaves for garnish (optional)

# Directions:

01 - In a small saucepan, combine the blueberries, sugar, and water. Simmer over medium heat for 3 to 4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the blueberries burst and the mixture thickens slightly. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl, pressing the berries to extract all the liquid. Discard the solids and let the syrup cool.
02 - Pour the boiling water over the black tea bags and steep for 3 to 4 minutes. Remove the tea bags and let the tea cool to room temperature.
03 - In a cocktail shaker or large mixing glass, combine the cooled tea, milk, blueberry syrup, and honey if using. Stir or shake until thoroughly mixed.
04 - Divide the ice cubes evenly between two tall glasses. Pour the blueberry milk tea mixture over the ice and stir gently to chill.
05 - Top each glass with fresh blueberries and mint leaves if desired. Serve immediately while cold.

# Expert Hints:

01 -
  • The blueberry syrup doubles as a pancake topper, so you will want to make extra every time.
  • It comes together faster than waiting in line at any bubble tea shop.
  • You probably have every single ingredient sitting in your kitchen right now.
02 -
  • Do not skip straining the syrup or you will end up with bits of skin floating in your drink, which looks unappetizing despite tasting fine.
  • Let both the syrup and the tea cool completely before combining, because warm ingredients will melt the ice instantly and leave you with a watery drink.
03 -
  • Muddle a few fresh blueberries directly in each glass before pouring for an extra burst of fruit flavor and a prettier layered look.
  • Freeze some of the blueberry syrup in ice cube trays and use those instead of regular ice so the drink never gets diluted.
